We have found over the years that the 3M maroon scotch-brite pads are perfect for roughing up varnish for the next coat. It gives the right amount abrasion to the surface so the next coat will stick very well. They last a long time but do wear out so you will use about 4 to 6 on a 17-foot boat.

This is by far the best sandpaper we have ever used for wet sanding varnish. This paper has a super even cut which helps when sanding varnish to make buffing easier. 25 sheet count

We use this after the sanding with 1500 grit on all the boats we sand and polish. This will help make the buffing eisier when it comes time to buff the varnish. 25 count

A great sanding block that will fit the paper just right with a medium flex. It is a must have when wet sanding varnish and paint.
